Pedalling through the city, I went over one canal to another. I rode through charming cobblestoned streets and alleys finding nice little shops to peruse through. I hid my lack of confidence for cycling so to fit in with the locals. Whenever travelling, I try my best to steer clear of the touristy antics, though sometimes I can’t refrain myself from taking the occasional photo or two – like I did with each canal. 48 hours was all that was given in this modish city of canals and oh so popular..cannabis.
It was a bright and vibrant start to the day, as I began cycling through different neighborhoods in this picturesque city. The cool, crisp morning air amongst the tall, skinny canal homes made the Dutch experience even more refreshing and rich. I was greeted by an aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, which obviously made me head into one for a sweet treat. As an added plus, breakfast was served in the most delicious, unicorn way possible.
It’s a concocted assumption to think that people visit Amsterdam for the cannabis. Sure, it’s easily found and sold all around, but not many people, as in locals, take up this trend for space cakes and what not.
There’s a feeling of a modern and contemporary style of living moving out of the smaller neighborhoods. Designs are clean and simple, living up to many Dutch designers we know out there. Solids, geometric patterns – effortless.
Amsterdam is probably home to all the hip, in vogue styles you can think of to exist. Crossing by ferry to another side of the city introduced a warehouse, hipster neighborhood resembling the Brooklyn of New York City – NDSM. Apparently, this is where you can find all the cool kids on the block hanging out.
The land of the Dutch is nothing short of a well-balanced mix of modern and tradition, from its architecture to lifestyle. This is perhaps one of the most consistently trending cities to pay a visit to, they just know how to keep things rolling.
